<Issue No. 26-4> The Breath of God We Hear Only When We Serve

Whenever I think of our church members who carry the weight of work, visas, and raising children amid the busy life of Sydney, my heart during prayer is always filled with both deep affection and respect. Even in the midst of such weariness, the reason we continue running toward the noble mission of “saving souls and making disciples” is this: serving is never something that merely drains our energy. Rather, it becomes a channel through which we receive new strength supplied by God.

When we serve others, we draw closest to the heart of Jesus who came to this earth for us. We begin to resemble our Lord, who said, “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” I especially bless all those who are serving in this House Church Training ministry. Though your bodies may be weary and your time limited, when we serve quietly and without recognition, God uses that devotion to rebuild what is broken in the church and to shape us into mature disciples who look more like Jesus.

However, there is a serious truth we must remember. When we step away from the place of service and fall into spiritual complacency, we become most vulnerable to the attacks of Satan. Look at King David. At the time when he should have gone out to the battlefield to fulfill his duty and serve, he remained behind, strolling on the rooftop of his palace. In his complacency, he eventually fell into the painful sin of committing adultery with Bathsheba. This is how Satan works—he waits for the moment when we are no longer serving together and no longer focused on our mission. The moment we distance ourselves from the work of saving souls under the excuse of a busy life, our hearts become exposed to worldly temptations and spiritual stagnation. Therefore, we must remember that serving is not merely about helping the church; it is a powerful shield that protects our own spiritual lives.

As we encounter various situations in church ministry, there may be times when worry comes first. But I believe this with all my heart: every need of our church will be personally filled by God, our Provider. Therefore, rather than worrying, I encourage us to gather together at the Zoom Miracle Early Morning Prayer, living each day with the spirit of Coram Deo—living before God.

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles” (Isaiah 40:31).

Hold firmly to the two pillars of the Word and prayer. When these pillars stand strong, we will be able to overcome any trial or hardship.

Monday the 26th, Australia Day, will be the day of our all-church BBQ party. Let us set aside our busy routines for a moment, grill meat together, share conversations, and confirm once again that we are one family in the Lord. I hope not a single person will miss this gathering—let us hold each other’s hands, laugh together, and receive new strength. God is still at work through us today. May this be a blessed week in which you experience the breath of God that can be heard only when we serve.
