저는 하나님의 뜻대로 목회를 하고 싶습니다. 그래서 기도할 때 주님이 주신 마음이 있으면 몇 주간 더 기도해 보고 제 마음에 그 내용이 계속 떠오르면 우리 교회 상황에 맞게 실천에 옮기려고 합니다. 제가 지난 8월 안식월 기간에 기도하면서 교회는 성령님이 이끄시는 교회인데 성령님이 이끄시는 느낌이 필요함을 깨닫게 되어 수요기도회가 필요함을 알게 되었습니다. 모든 교우들이 함께 모여 기도하는 시간이 필요한 것입니다. 그래서 금주 수요일부터 수요일 삶 공부가 지난 주 종강했기 때문에 8:30에 수요기도회를 시작하려고 합니다. 쏜리교회 찬양팀이 8시까지 연습을 하기 때문에 저희는 8:30부터 모일 수가 있습니다.
저희 교회는 개척 초기부터 수요기도회를 하지 않았습니다. 왜냐하면 삶공부가 중요했기 때문입니다. 가정교회 3축을 형성하게 되면 1주에 10시간 정도 시간을 투자하게 되는데 수요기도회까지 있으면 부담이 될 수 있기 때문입니다. 3축 형성에 집중하여 목회한 결과 저희 교회는 가정교회 토양이 잘 형성되었고 영혼 구원하고 제자삼는 교회가 되어 깨어진 세상을 회복하는 교회로 세워져 오면서 대양주를 대표하는 가정교회의 모습을 가지게 되었습니다. 그래서 매년 평신도 세미나 또는 목회자 세미나로 섬길 수 있는 자격을 갖게 된 것입니다.
그런데 코로나 19 이후에 사람들이 추구하는 신앙생활의 흐름에 변화가 생겼습니다. 이젠 VIP들도 영성을 추구하는 시대가 되었습니다. 그런데 교회는 오지 않고 개인 영성을 추구합니다. 영성이란 '나는 누구인가?' '나는 무엇을 위해 살아가는가?' 라는 질문에 대한 답을 찾아가는 내면의 여정입니다. 기독교에서 영성이란. '성령님의 인도하심을 따라 살아가면서 예수님의 성품을 닮아가는 전인적인 과정'을 가리킵니다. 그래서 영성을 회복하려면 하나님과 친밀한 교제를 하는 관계성이 중요하고, 예수님의 인격을 본받고 닮아가는 성장성이 중요하며 삶 속에서 믿음을 살아가는 실천성이 중요합니다. 그래서 삶공부 시즌이 끝나게 되는 12월 초부터 2월까지 수요일 저녁 8:30에 수요기도회를 가지면서 우리의 영성을 회복해가는 시간을 갖기 원합니다.
기도회 순서는 제가 5-10분 정도 기도에 대한 말씀을 나누고 함께 교회 기도제목을 가지고 10분 정도 합심기도 후 개인적으로 약 40분 정도 기도할 수 있는 시간을 갖도록 할 예정입니다. 12월 3일 수요일 오후 8:30에 모두 모여서 함께 간절히 기도하며 주님과 깊은 사랑의 관계를 회복하고 영적인 목마름을 해갈해가는 귀한 시간이 되길 소망해 봅니다. 다양한 기도훈련을 하면서 영성을 회복해 갈 것입니다.
8시 15분부터 반주 음악을 틀어 놓을 것입니다. 미리 오셔서 함께 준비해 주시면 좋겠습니다. 아이들도 5명이상 참석하게 되면 교사들이 돌아가면서 담당하여 어린이 기도회를 가질 예정입니다. 기도제목이 있는 분들은 기도제목 목록을 만들고 VIP 명단을 가지고 기도회에 참여하시기 바랍니다. 수요영성기도회를 마칠 때 기도제목을 가지고 제가 함께 기도하며 하나님의 위로가 있는 위로기도 해 드리려고 합니다.
부탁드리고 싶은 것은 목자목녀목부님들은 처음 7주 정도는 꼭 참석해 주시기 바랍니다. 그리고 모든 교우들은 수요영성기도회를 위해 매주 1-2시간 투자해 주시기 바랍니다. 기도회를 통해 우리의 상처가 치유되고 문제가 해결되는 은혜와 회복이 있기를 소망합니다.

<Issue No. 25-48> We Are Beginning the Wednesday Spiritual Prayer Meeting
I want to do ministry according to God’s will. So when I pray, if the Lord gives me a certain conviction, I pray over it for several weeks. If that conviction continues to stay on my heart, I try to put it into practice in a way that fits our church’s situation. During my sabbatical in August, I prayed and realized that the church is meant to be led by the Holy Spirit, and that we need to recover a sense of being led by Him. That’s when I recognized the need for a Wednesday prayer meeting. We need a time when all church members gather and pray together. Because the Life Study classes finished last week, we plan to start the Wednesday Prayer Meeting at 8:30 PM starting this Wednesday. The Thornleigh Church praise team practices until 8:00 PM, so we can gather starting from 8:30 PM.
Our church has not held a Wednesday prayer meeting since its founding. This is because the Life Study has always been important. When a church establishes the three pillars of the House Church ministry, members invest about ten hours a week. Adding another weekly prayer meeting could become burdensome. By focusing on building the three pillars, our church developed strong foundations for House Church ministry, became a church that saves souls and makes disciples, and grew into a church that heals a broken world. Over time, we have even become one of the representative House Churches in Oceania, qualifying to host the annual Lay Leader Seminar or Pastor Seminar.
However, after COVID-19, the trend of how people practice their faith has changed. Today, even VIPs pursue spirituality. Yet many do not come to church; instead, they pursue personal spirituality on their own. Spirituality seeks answers to questions like: “Who am I?” and “What am I living for?” In Christianity, spirituality refers to “the holistic process of becoming more like Jesus as we live under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.” To restore spirituality, intimate communion with God is essential, growth in Christlike character is essential, and living out faith in daily life is essential. Therefore, from early December—after the Life Study season ends—until February, we will hold Wednesday Prayer Meetings at 8:30 PM, to restore our spiritual vitality. The structure of the prayer meeting will be as follows:
• I will share a short message on prayer for about 5–10 minutes.
• Then we will spend about 10 minutes praying together over the church’s prayer topics.
• After that, there will be about 40 minutes for personal prayer.
My hope is that on Wednesday, December 3rd at 8:30 PM, we will all gather and earnestly pray together—restoring a deep love relationship with the Lord and quenching our spiritual thirst. Through various prayer-training practices, we will rebuild our spirituality. We will play prelude music starting at 8:15 PM. Please come early and prepare your heart with us. If more than five children attend, the teachers will take turns leading a children’s prayer meeting. If you have prayer requests, please write them down, bring your VIP list, and participate in the prayer meeting. At the end of each Wednesday Spiritual Prayer Meeting, I will gather your prayer requests and pray with you, offering a prayer of comfort so that you may experience God’s consolation.
One request: I ask all shepherds (목자·목녀·목부) to attend faithfully for at least the first seven weeks. And I ask all church members to invest 1–2 hours each week for the Wednesday Spiritual Prayer Meeting. Through this prayer gathering, I pray that our wounds will be healed and our problems resolved, experiencing grace and restoration.
